Doritos Commercials Snacking On Humour

PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay, triangular shaped, Doritos flavoured tortilla chips, have for more than a decade inspired advertising agencies, to conceive commercials with a unique brand of outlandish humour, that have given rise to a globally distinctive, Doritos brand personality, in the confectionery and snack sector of advertising and marketing.

1. Doritos/Cheetos Flamin’ Hot, Push It

Directed by renowned filmmaker Tom Kuntz, the dual-branding Fritos and Cheerios ‘Flamin’ Hot’ commercial, features a soundtrack of iconic rap group Salt-N-Pepa’s 80’s anthem “Push It”, with American singer, songwriter, Charlie Puth providing a rhythmic-beat ‘voiceover’ for a cameo of a ‘switched-on’ fox.

Starring American freestyle rapper Megan Pete, professionally known as ‘Megan Thee Stallion’, as a jungle exploring zoologist, and a little rapper songbird, the stellar production, with its cast of ‘party animals’, provides flamin’ fun viewing.

2. Doritos STAX, The Triangular Man

Directed by talented storytelling filmmaker, Sebastien Grousset, the biographical Doritos STAX parody, about a young man named Gary, who causes a global, triangle-playing music mania, is superbly produced, and smilingly entertaining, with a soundtrack by the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

3. Doritos Cool Ranch, Bassquake

The Doritos ‘Bassquake’ dance-battle, directed by renowned filmmaker Lance Acord, is an amusing parody of a classic ‘Western standoff’.

Starring Hollywood actor Sam Elliott, and American rapper, hip-hop artist, singer and songwriter, Lil Nas X, the commercial also features a surprise cameo appearance by American singer-songwriter and actor, Billy Ray Cyrus.

Backed by a soundtrack inspired by Li Nas X’s Billboard-topping single, “Old Town Road”, Sam Elliot and Lil Nas X, deliver impressive performances that are engagingly  very ‘cool’.

4. Doritos Hardcore, Rodeo

Directed by music curator and filmmaker, Pablo Hermida, the Doritos ‘Rodeo’ commercial, with its fantastically produced scenario twist, is ‘hardcore’ fun.

The soundtrack features the resonant song “Hey Brother” by Swedish DJ, remixer, and music producer, Tim Bergling, known as Avicii.

5. Doritos, Dip Desperado

Directed by filmmaker Gary Freedman, the scenario about the Mexican sport of ‘El Flicko’, the art of flicking Doritos tortilla chips into salsa dips, was filmed in Bernal, a colonial village in the Mexican state of Querétaro.

The classic, integrated ‘Dip Desperado’ campaign, and Cannes Gold Lion Cinema and TV commercial, about the rise and fall of Esteban Ortega, a Doritos, tortilla chip-flicker superstar, is an inventively entertaining, documentary-styled production, of fictitious actuality.
