Engaging Live Action and Animation Portrayals
The engagingly effective combination of live-action and animation productions, in filmic brand communication initiatives, take their cue from the 1988 feature-film, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”
The American fantasy comedy, directed by Robert Zemeckis from a screenplay written by Jeffrey Price, and Peter S. Seaman, stars Bob Hoskins, Christopher Lloyd, Stubby Kaye and Joanna Cassidy, with Charles Fleischer providing the voice of the title character.
Set in an ‘alternative’ Hollywood of 1947, where humans and cartoon characters, referred to as “toons”, co-exist, ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ follows Eddie Valiant, a private investigator with a grudge against toons, who must help exonerate Roger, who has been framed for murder.
Released through Disney’s Touchstone Pictures on June 22,1988, The film received critical acclaim for its humour, writing, and groundbreaking combination of live-action and animation portrayals, that brought a renewed interest in the golden age of American animation, spearheading modern American animation and the Disney Renaissance.
In 2016, ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry, by the Library of Congress, as “culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant”.
