My Favourite Dorian & Daniel Commercials
This is another in the globally popular ACES series, of featuring commercial filmmakers and directors that I admire for their skills in bringing creative concepts, and storylines to enthralling life.
Dorian & Daniel
Filmmaking duo Dorian Langenbach, and Daniel Titz, are graduates of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart.
For their student portfolio, they conceived and directed a speculative Johnnie Walker commercial at the Filmakademie, titled ‘Dear Brother’, and filmed in Scotland.
‘Dear Brother’ was widely lauded, and with over 20 million global views, their filmmaking endeavour, immediately brought them to the attention of the advertising world.
They have subsequently gone on from strength, to creative strength, with compelling commercials of filmic artistry, and impressive directional skills.

2. Samsung Galaxy S22, Love
Advertising Agency: Leo Burnett, Frankfurt Germany
Samsung Galaxy’s S22 ‘Love’ scenario, directed by filmmaking duo Dorian & Daniel, surprisingly centres on the unlikeliest of household pets, an endearing, lonely spider, with four eyes.
Sam the Spider is amusingly drawn to the Galaxy S22 smartphone camera’s four optical camera lenses with a feeling of kinship, and falls hopelessly in love.

Advertising Agency: Leo Burnett, Turin, Italy
Filmed in Barcelona, Spain, and directed by filmmaking duo Dorian & Daniel, the scenario about a a screenwriter, inspired by the passage of a Jeep Compass, imagines the various screen-writing possibilities he could conceive.
His envisioned advertising themes, are creatively brought to life in dramatic visual depictions, that are cinematically epic, and very entertaining to view.
4. Ancestry, The Journey
Advertising Agency: Anomaly, Toronto, Canada
Ancestry.com LLC, an American genealogy company based, in Lehi, Utah, is the world’s largest online family history resource.
The Irish potato famine began in 1845 and led to seven years of mass starvation and disease, forcing many Irish citizens to decide between staying in their home country, or emigrating to foreign shores as their best chance of family survival.
Directed by filmmaking duo Dorian & Daniel, ‘The Journey’ is an emotive scenario about one Irish family’s life-changing decision choices confronting them.
Anomaly’s Ancestry campaigns aims to highlight how family history discoveries, can engender a sense of relatedness to the world, and an awareness of formative ancestral roots that make up one’s DNA.

Sports betting brand Tipico’s ‘Matchday commercial, centres on FC Bayern Munich, and features a cameo of their brand ambassador, football executive and former professional player, Oliver Kahn, a voice-over by German rapper Summer Cem, and music producer Joshimixu’s pulsating soundtrack.

7. Johnnie Walker, Dear Brother
Written and directed by Daniel & Dorian, the speculative Johnnie Walker commercial, from their Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg student portfolio, is a remarkable filmic endeavour.
Narrated by poet Johnny ‘Bang’ Reilly, and filmed in Scotland, the atmospheric story about two brothers on a hike in the Highlands, features emotive characterisations by actors Mathew Lewis Carter, and Robin Guiver, that resonated with millions of viewers with this superbly crafted script:
Walking the roads of our youth
through the land of our childhood, our home and our truth
Be near me, guide me
always stay beside me so I can be free, free
Lets roam this place
familiar and vast
our playground of green frames, our past
We were wanderers
never lost, always home
When every place was fenceless
and time was endless
our ways were always the same
Cool my demons and walk with me brother
until our roads lead us away from each other
and if your heart’s full of sorrow, keep walking,
don’t rest and promise me from heart to chest
to never let your memories die, never
I will always be alive and by your side,
in your mind
